Upon proper registration, all ZAK-PAC students may participate in solo competitions scheduled throughout the weekend in front of a panel of jurors, all professionals in the business, in the categories of Voice, Drama, and Dance. Students will then receive immediate constructive feedback and comments from the panel. All competitions are solo, should be theatrical in nature, and are five minutes in length per category chosen, which includes set-up if necessary as well as feedback from the judges. Only one category/discipline per five minute competition. Students may compete in all categories and may compete multiple times in any category.
The weekend of competitions culminates in a Finale Showcase Event performance where several top finalists from each competition category will be announced as a way to showcase the outstanding work and/or notable talent seen by the judges and teachers throughout the weekend. Once announced, Top Finalists will perform at the Finale Showcase Event in front of a larger panel of judges and prizes will then be awarded to one top pick per category as well as one overall ZAK-PAC participant. Scholarships to future ZAK-PAC conventions will be awarded to runners-up.
Students can select their competition time slot during Scheduling within the Registration process. ZAK-PAC will then assign specific competition times within that time slot once we receive registration and payment. Students may be scheduled to compete during a class they have chosen. If so, they will leave their class for the assigned Competition room and then return to class when they are finished.
Students may wear attire used for their classes during the weekend for competitions. For dance competitions, please wear appropriate attire that allows for movement (no baggy clothes or clothes that hide dance lines and extensions). Unless used as a prop for a monologue or song, costumes and costume pieces are unnecessary. Casual, appropriate audition attire is the best option. Participants are not judged on their appearance during the ZAK-PAC competitions. See breakdown of requirements below for more information.
